Wilmer Kissell Street Bridge Replacement (Wilmer, TX)
APM & Associates was selected as prime consultant by the Dallas County to prepare Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) for replacement of an existing bridge on Kissell Street over the Cottonwood Creek in the City of Wilmer. The project was funded with federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) money. Therefore, construction dollar was limited. The existing bridge was a 50-year old steel thru-girder bridge, 62 feet long by 20 feet wide, founded on wood piling. The replacement bridge was concrete pan girder construction, 125 feet long by 40 feet wide. APM was responsible for hydraulic modeling of the creek, using HEC-2 runs, to determine the base flood elevation, and obtaining the necessary Corps of Engineers permits. Due to budget constraints, the bridge was constructed with transition asphalt pavement at both ends. APM also prepared the plans for future improvements of the creek.
